Every year on the 20th March, tens of thousands of people flock to the city centre and come together in celebration of Newroz. Dressed in their traditional Kurdish clothes, men, women and children enjoy live entertainment, food stalls and of course dancing amongst each other as they welcome the first day of spring and the New Year. This year, the people of Slemani welcomed the year 2714 in true fashion; they were loud, united, triumphant and colourful as they paraded their culture and pride down “Jaday Saholaka” one of Slemani’s most popular streets.
